Mosaic And Rainbow Advance Brazil's Rare Earth Project

HOUSTON, March 11th (Argus) - US fertilizer producer Mosaic and British-based Rainbow Rare Earths have today agreed to advance the rare earth project in Uberaba, Brazil.
The two companies plan to establish a processing plant in Uberaba, Minas Gerais, based on the results of the feasibility study, with the final agreement to be negotiated by the jointly-owned project company. The construction plan is scheduled for 2027.
The economic assessment indicates that the facility will process approximately 2.7 million tons of phosphoric acid gypsum per year and will produce 1,900 tons per year of neodymium oxide and praseodymium oxide, as well as 600 tons per year of samarium, europium and gadolinium products rich in medium and heavy rare earth elements.
Rainbow specializes in recovering rare earth elements from phosphoric acid gypsum and is currently developing two projects, including the Phalaborwa project in South Africa.
