How Do Cartridge Dust Remover Work?
Cartridge filters are made from pleated material, and the particulate is collected on the outside of the filter media. These filters are usually cylindrical in shape and this form may be reinforced by metal mesh or fabric bands. The pleated material may be made from a polyester-cellulose blend, and the outside of the filter has a specialized coating, matching the application it is being used for. Cartridge filter coatings may include nanofibers (increasing filter efficiency), spunbound material (adding durability under exacting conditions), PTFE fibers (non-stick), hydrophobic coating (water-resistant), or oleophobic coating (oil-resistant). Other filter coatings may be anti-static or fire-retardant.
Small cartridge dust or fume collectors may have as few as two or four cartridges. Though for large manufacturing plants, dust collection units with dozens or over a hundred cartridges are not uncommon.
Benefits of using a Cartridge Dust Remover
Waterproof, moisture-proof, abrasion-proof and anti-corrosion filter material.
Folding arrangement of hard filter material, no steel frame, no wear of filter material.
Surface filtration replaces deep filtration of dust and no longer penetrates into the filter material.
The dust removal efficiency of the filter cartridge bag filter surface filtration is much higher than that of the old type dust collector, greatly reducing the emission of harmful substances, and the air purification index has reached the world's advanced level.
The cartridge type dust collector has no filter material wear and tear, and there are no moving parts on its body. It can be used for a long time without maintenance. It avoids the trouble of constantly changing the filter material of the old type dust collector. It saves money and time and effort without secondary pollution.
The volume and weight of the cartridge type dust collector are smaller than those of the same specification, which saves civil construction space and civil construction load, and saves significant capital construction investment.
How Does a Cartridge Dust Collector Clean Filters?
Vertical and horizontal cartridge collector systems use the same method for cleaning cartridge filters. Pulses of compressed air travel through the filters in the opposite direction that the dirty air goes. These pulses blow dust and particles off the filters so it can fall into the collection container.
Compressed air pulse cleaning keeps cartridge filters working efficiently. Depending on the application, companies can expect several months to a year or more of filter life. Eventually, the filters have accumulated so much dust that they don't let air flow through them anymore.
This slowed-down airflow is measured as differential pressure. This measures the change in pressure across the filters when the pulse cleaning operates. When the differential pressure gets too high, the filters have reached the end of their functional life.
Some systems operate the pulse cleaning on a timer. This may lead to filters being pulsed when they don't need it. Since the compressed air blasts cause wear and tear on a filter over time, many systems try to minimize the number of pulses. Some systems only initiate pulse cleaning when the differential pressure reaches a certain point. As a result, filters are only pulsed clean when they need it.
Cartridge dust removers are widely used in industries to capture airborne dust particles and improve air quality. The working principle of the machine is simple and effective. The dusty air enters the dust remover through the inlet ductwork and passes through a cartridge filter.
Cartridge filters with pleated media and a large surface area provide high efficiency in dust collection. The filter media traps the airborne dust particles, and the purified air flows through the outlet ductwork to the environment. The collected dust particles are periodically cleaned from the cartridge filter to maintain the dust remover's efficiency.
The cleaning process of the cartridge filter is automated and can be done through different methods, including pulse jet cleaning, reverse air cleaning, and more. The chosen cleaning method depends on the type of dust and the operating conditions. During the cleaning process, a pulse of compressed air is released into the cartridges, dislodging the collected dust and debris from inside the filter.
Cartridge dust removers are highly efficient and provide a cost-effective solution for managing airborne dust particles in the workplace. They are easy to operate, require low maintenance, and ensure a clean and safe working environment for employees. Moreover, cartridge dust removers are environmentally friendly and comply with local and international regulations.
Main Performance Indicators of Cartridge Dust Remover
The pulsed air is blown directly into the cylinder without passing through the venturi. This will cause the end of the cartridge near the pulse valve (upper) to experience negative pressure, while the other end of the cartridge (lower) will experience pressure. This will cause different cleaning of the upper and lower parts of the filter cylinder and may shorten the service life, and make the equipment can not achieve effective cleaning.
For this purpose, Venturi nozzles for filter canisters can be installed on the pulse valve outlet or pulse spray pipe. The distribution of injection pressure is improved to a more uniform full height positive pressure injection.
Dust accumulation in the folding joint of the filter cylinder will make it more difficult to remove dust. Therefore, the filter cylinder with large folding area (the filter area of each cylinder is up to 20~22m2) is generally only suitable for use in the case of low inlet concentration. More commonly used filter cylinder size and filter area.
The air division box of the pulse jet device of the filter shall comply with JB/T 10191-2000. Clean air flow should be free of water, oil and dust. Pulse valve under the specified conditions, the injection valve and the interface should have no air leakage phenomenon, and can open and close normally, reliable work.
The pulse controller should work accurately and reliably, and its injection time and interval can be adjusted within a certain range. When the induction blowout device and blowout pipe are installed together. The nozzle of the induced injection device should be coaxial with the nozzle hole on the injection pipe and maintain the same perpendicality with the nozzle, with a deviation of less than 2mm.
Selection technique of Cartridge Dust Remover
Cleaning device
There are two traditional cleaning methods of the filter drum dust collector, one is the high pressure air flow back blowing, the other is the pulse air jet blowing, the practice shows that the former has the advantage of uniform air flow, the disadvantage is large gas consumption; The advantage of the latter is small gas consumption, the disadvantage is weak airflow. To this end, two improvements can be made: on the one hand, a diversion device is added to the pulse jet pipe to strengthen the airflow induction effect; on the other hand, the upper part of the filter drum is cancelled, so that the pulse airflow and the induction airflow can fully enter the filter drum at the same time. After this improvement, the air consumption is less, the air flow is uniform, and the cleaning effect is good. According to the calculation, the cleaning air flow after the improvement is 3-5 times of the pulse air flow.
Gas distribution plate
The airflow distribution of the filter is very important. It is necessary to consider how to avoid the high wear area of the filter material at the entrance of the equipment due to the high wind speed. The airflow distribution plate has a unique requirement for the cylinder dust collector, the airflow distribution must be very stable and uniform. It is conducive to the rise of air flow and the fall of dust, air distribution plate opening rate of 35%. According to calculation, the drag coefficient < 2, it can be seen that in the airflow velocity < At 0.8m/s, the porous air distribution plate can meet the requirements of the cylinder type dust collector.
What the Difference Between a Baghouse and Cartridge Dust Collector

A baghouse and a cartridge dust collector are both types of air pollution control equipment used to capture and remove dust particles from the air, but they have different designs and operating principles:
● A baghouse uses filter bags, such as woven fabric or felt, to capture dust particles.
● A cartridge dust collector, on the other hand, uses cylindrical filter cartridges, such as pleated paper or synthetic fibers, to capture dust particles. The gas with dust in it goes into the collector, and the cartridges filter out the dust. The cleaned gas exits the collector, while the dust particles collect on the cartridges. Periodically, the cartridges are replaced or cleaned to remove the collected dust.
Both have different cleaning methods: Baghouses use shaking or reverse pulsing, and cartridge dust collectors use replacement or cleaning.
The choice between the two types of dust collectors depends on the specific application, dust characteristics, budget, and the client's preference.
Cartridge Dust Removerr Maintenance Points
• Filter Maintenance: Regular inspection, cleaning, and replacement of filters are essential maintenance tasks. Filters are the heart of a dust collector system, and their condition directly impacts the system's efficiency.
• Inspection and Cleaning of Internal Components: Checking and cleaning fans, motors, and other internal parts. Accumulated dust can cause these components to work inefficiently or fail.
• Airflow Monitoring: Ensuring that the airflow remains within the recommended parameters is essential for efficient operation. Changes in airflow can indicate issues such as filter clogging or leaks.
• Leak Checks: Regularly inspecting the system for leaks in the ductwork, housings, and airlocks. Leaks can reduce the efficiency of the system and allow dust to escape into the work environment.
• Dust Removal and Disposal: Properly and safely removing and disposing of collected dust. This is important for maintaining system efficiency and preventing secondary dust hazards.
• Maintenance of Cleaning Systems: For systems with automatic cleaning features, such as pulse-jet mechanisms, regular checks and maintenance of these systems are crucial to ensure they function correctly.
• Checking and Replacing Worn Parts: Regularly inspecting and replacing worn or damaged components like valves, seals, and gaskets to maintain system integrity and performance.
• Control System Checks: Testing the control systems and sensors to ensure they are functioning correctly and making adjustments as needed.
• Safety System Checks: These include safety stops, smoke detectors, fire suppression system, spark arrestors and other safety components.
Cartridge Dust Remover Maintenance Tips
Create a Maintenance Plan
It's important to have a preventative maintenance plan in place to guarantee that the dust collection systems components are working properly and, if not, replacing any damaged or broken elements, and taking corrective action if the operation process is unlike design conditions.
We recommend keeping a record of daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly inspection logs as directed in the manufacturer's manual.
Compressed Air Pressure
One of the most critical aspects of maintaining dust collectors is compressed air. There are a few factors that ensure compressed air is up to standard:
• High-quality air pressure is key to ensuring the best clean.
• If the pressure is too low, cartridges are not adequately cleaned, resulting in saturation.
• If compressed air pressure is too high, cartridges will be used and replaced more frequently.
• The power of the compressor needs to be strong enough to supply air at a constant pressure throughout maximum production and when operators require high levels of compressed air.
Dust Collector Filter Media
Inspect the clean-air side of the dust collector for leaks and the bag filter for tears.
The filter media is the most important element because it collects and controls the dust. If pressure drop within a collector becomes high it may be due to excessive dust buildup or blinding of filters.
Our dust collector replacement filters feature a pleated design that provides more surface area than traditional baghouse bag filters. Because of their design, cartridge filters allow air to flow through them easily while capturing dust particles more efficiently. When you shop with us, you can buy with confidence. If your expectations aren't met, we will replace your filter at no cost!
Don't Forget to Empty the Hopper
Hoppers may be used to direct collected dust to storage containers or transport systems, but they aren't meant for storage.
It's important to check the empty dustbin regularly to prevent bridging. Bridging traps dust in the hopper and can raise the pressure drop in the dust collector.
Look for Emissions
Keep an eye out for particulates that are discharged from the exhaust stack. Visible emissions suggest a tear in a seal or filter.
If you notice emissions leaking it's imperative to find the tear as they create health risks, property and equipment damage, and possible fines. It's recommended to integrate a broken bag detector that alerts staff of bag failure or leaks.
Don't Exceed Pressure Drop
When filter bags accumulate dust, some particulate becomes ingrained into the filter media and increases the appropriate pressure drop. The airstream that filters through this dust collects the fine particulate using high-efficiency. High differential pressures can cause filter media to bleed, impeding the dust collector's ability to capture dust and allowing it to escape into the surrounding environment.
• When airflow reaches a differential pressure of 120 to 150daP or above max. specifications it's time to change the filter.
• Differential pressure is the amount of static resistance across filters when operating a positive or negative pressure dust collector.
• A pressure drop is generally measured in inches of water column, or wc, and indicates the amount of dust collected on filter media and the condition of filters.
Choose the Proper Exhaust Fan
An exhaust fan is used to quickly send ventilation air from the hood or point of pick-up through the ductwork and dust collector filter and out of the exhaust stack. To determine which exhaust fan meets SCFM requirements, calculate the pressure drop by gauging the static resistance of ductwork, the dust collector, and hoods or pick-up points.
Structual Quality
The quality of a dust collector's structure can affect performance and maintenance, and reduce equipment life. It's important to inspect welds, joints, and flange seals. All leaks should be sealed mechanically or with silicone caulking.
In a positive pressure system, dust will blow out of the collector, creating a potential risk to employees.
In a negative pressure system, a tear in a seal or weld will allow ambient air to enter the collector bringing in moisture and contaminants.
Signs to check for:
• Make sure all fasteners are in place and tightly fastened.
• Check the structure for excessive corrosion and signs of weakness.
• Replace and re-weld any components that have cracked welds such as bolts, cross bracing, or gussets.
• Closely evaluate the filter's external walls for corrosion or bowing.
• Repair holes in the dust collector walls or hopper.
Check That the Cleaning System Is Functioning
Reverse air, pulses, and shakers are all used to loosen up dust from filter media. If the system that your dust collector uses is not properly functioning, dust will continue to build resulting in an increased pressure drop and a decreased volume of ventilation air.
If the situation escalates, airstream velocities will reduce, causing a dropout of dust in the ducts, which can interrupt the entire system.
Ductwork Systems
Another important element in a dust collection system is the ductwork. Without ducting, particulates will not be able to reach the baghouse and the dust collector will not perform efficiently.
