On July 27, China Metallurgical International Indonesia signed a construction contract for the first tender section of the Indonesian OBI nickel-iron project. This is another return for Indonesian companies after their continued intensive cultivation in the Indonesian mining and metallurgical engineering market.
The Indonesian OBI ferronickel project is located in the OBI Island mining area in North Maluku Province, Indonesia. The project has a total of 8 ferronickel smelting production lines, using the original ore of the mining area, with an annual output of 900,000 tons of ferronickel products.
The first section of the project belongs to the main part of the project, including: the main plant building, process equipment, automation control, the civil construction and installation of the factory road, public and auxiliary facilities, as well as the commissioning, and the guarantee of transportation. The construction period is 400 days, and it will be constructed by MCC International Indonesia in cooperation with Shanghai Baoye.
Over the years, MCC International Indonesia has focused on the main business of MCC, aimed at the rich local mineral resources in Indonesia, and continued to make efforts in the field of Indonesian metallurgical construction projects. Since 2016, MCC has successively signed contracts for the construction of the first phase of Indonesia OBI’s emerging cast pipe ferronickel smelting project, MSP4# line project, Indonesia’s OBI nickel and cobalt project, the first and third tenders, the fifth tender, and the Indonesian OBI ferronickel project. Engineering and many other large-scale metallurgical construction projects have made OBI Island, an originally barren island, an important base for smelting and exporting laterite nickel ore in Indonesia.
The Indonesian OBI nickel-cobalt project under construction uses the most complete types of pyrometallurgical and hydrometallurgical smelting processes for laterite nickel ore processing in Indonesia. The unique construction experience has polished MCC's golden sign in the Indonesian metallurgical construction market.
