In order to gain advantages in the increasingly fierce technology and price competition in the coatings market, coating manufacturers have put forward more and higher requirements for carbon black pigments in the development of high-end industrial paints and refinishes: high blackness, It also needs to have excellent toning performance and control costs. It is also hoped that carbon black pigments have good dispersibility, storage stability and outdoor weather resistance in solvent-based and water-based coating systems. In order to meet these market demands, Orion Engineering Carbon has successfully developed a new type of high pigment furnace carbon black-XPB 700.
XPB 700 is a low-structure carbon black with a small primary particle size. Through an innovative post-treatment process, Orion has controlled the volatility of XPB 700 at about 3% at 950 ºC, so that the carbon black surface has oxygen-containing functional groups. These functional groups combined with the low structure of carbon black make XPB 700 have a lower slurry viscosity than traditional furnace carbon black when preparing coatings. The post-treatment process also gives the carbon black pigment more excellent wetting and dispersing properties, so that the solvent-based and water-based coatings have higher gloss, better floating stability, and storage stability.
