Anglo American plc recently announced its production report for the fourth quarter ended December 31, 2022.
Nickel production fell 4% year-on-year to 10,200 tonnes in the fourth quarter of 2022, mainly due to the Barro Alto's annual maintenance schedule and the impact of high rainfall in December 2022, the report showed. Nickel's full-year average price of $10.26 / lb is 12% below market prices, mainly due to the discount of ferro nickel to LME grade nickel.
2023 production target
Production guidance for 2023 is 38,000-40,000 tonnes. Unit cost guidance for 2023 is about 515c/lb.
Concentrate metal production from the platinum group metals (PGM) business fell by 10 per cent due to lower grade at Mogalakwena and the impact of planned infrastructure closure at Amandelbult. The figures only include nickel production from the Brazilian nickel business (excluding 213,000 tonnes of nickel produced by the platinum-group metals business for the full year 2022).
