Indonesia's state-run miner Anekka Mining said it plans to start operations at a new nickel-iron plant on the island of Halmahera in the second half of 2023, after years of delays due to power supply problems.
The company originally planned to start operations in 2019.

In March last year, Antam signed an agreement with the State Public Power Company to build a power plant and the first phase of construction was completed in December with a generating capacity of 15 megawatts, Antam said in the statement. The second phase of the plant is expected to be completed in the first quarter of this year.
"Depending on the progress of the power procurement process and the completion phase of the plant construction, the Haltim ferronickel plant could start production in the second half of 2023," an Antam executive said in a statement.
The nickel-iron plant will have an annual capacity of 13,500 tonnes and will increase Antam's overall annual nickel-iron capacity to 40,500 tonnes.
