Aneka Tambang, or Antam, is overseeing the completion of the Development project (P3FH) of the East Hama Hela Nickel and Iron Plant in North Maluku Province. Antam is currently in talks with Guodian to supply power to the smelter.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, ANTM Senior vice president of corporate Secretary Yulan Kustiyan said, "It is hoped that the East Hamahela Nickel and iron smelter will be operational in 2022."
Line 1 of the East Hammahera Nickel iron Smelter has a planned annual capacity of 13,500TNi. The smelter will complement Antam's three iron-nickel smelters at Pomalaa, southeast of Sulawesi, which have four production lines with a combined capacity of 27,000TNi per year.
As a result, when Antam's East Hamahera nickel and iron smelter project is completed later, Antam will have a total annual production capacity of 40,500TNi.
In addition to the East Hammahera nickel and iron smelter in Antam, three other smelter projects are scheduled to be completed and operational by 2021, These are the Smelter owned by PT Smelter Nickel Indonesia, the Nickel Smelter of PT Cahaya Modern Metal Industri in Banten, and the Smelter of PT Kapuas Prima Citra in central Kalimantan.
If all four plants are successfully completed this year, the total number of smelters in China will reach 23.
