São Paulo, May 28th (Argus) - Australian company Galan Lithium has successfully completed the commissioning of its Hombre Muerto West lithium chloride project in Argentina, with an annual production capacity of 60,000 metric tons.
The company has also completed the first batch of lithium chloride processing at HMW, aiming to achieve the first output and sales in the second half of this year.
Galan expects that when the HMW project reaches full production capacity of 60,000 tons per year, it will become one of the largest lithium projects in Argentina, although there is no specific timetable for now. Currently, the annual production capacity of this factory is 4,000 tons and it plans to increase to 5,200 tons per year in the first half of 2027.
This milestone has officially made Galan the eighth active lithium producer in Argentina and marks the company's successful transformation from an exploration company (commonly referred to as a "junior company" in the mining industry) to a lithium miner and producer.
According to another producer, SQM, Argentina is the country with the largest number of lithium producers in Latin America and will rank second in global brine lithium production in 2025, after Chile.
