Australian Syrah Has Once Again Postponed The Delivery Of Graphite Anode To Tesla

Sydney, January 19th (Argus) - Australian graphite producer Syrah Resources and American automaker Tesla have once again postponed the deadline for the delivery of graphite active negative electrode material samples.
This transaction involves 8,000 tons per year of graphite active negative electrode material. The deadline has been postponed from the originally scheduled February 9th to March 16th.
On January 19th, Syrah informed investors that if Syrah fails to deliver samples that meet the agreed specifications before March 16th, Tesla will have the right to nullify the agreement.

Syrah originally planned to certify its graphite active negative electrode material by May 31st, 2025, but later extended the deadline to February 9th, 2026. The company also postponed the contract deadline for providing product samples in September 2025.
According to the agreement, Syrah will supply 71% of its production capacity of 11,250 tons of graphite active negative electrode material per year from its Vidalia factory in Louisiana to Tesla. At the same time, Tesla supports Syrah's expansion plan by expanding the purchase agreement, and by 2028, the capacity of Vidalia's graphite active negative electrode material will increase to 45,000 tons per year.
Syrah received a $165 million tax credit under the US Inflation Reduction Act to support its expansion of the Vidalia plant planned for January 2025.
Another US automaker, Stellantis, cancelled an 86,250-11,5000-ton synthetic graphite deal with Australian producer Novonix a few months ago due to differences in product specifications and schedules.
