On the morning of February 1st, a Liberian cargo ship berthing at the general wharf of Binhai Port of Yancheng Port, Jiangsu Province, loaded with 20,000 tons of nickel iron imported from Indonesia, unloaded the cargo in an orderly manner.
This is the first foreign trade freighter ushered in after the first class port of Binhai Port District of Yancheng Port officially opened to the outside world.
The ship, which is 181 meters long and 26 meters wide, set off from Kendali Port in Indonesia on January 22 and arrived at Binhai Port on the morning of January 31, according to officials from Binhai Port Industrial Park in Yancheng City.
In order to successfully complete the work of epidemic prevention, docking, docking, loading and unloading of this foreign trade cargo ship, the Binhai Port Area paid close attention to and reported the latest developments of the ship every day, and repeated simulation exercises were carried out on the epidemic prevention and control process to ensure that every link was correct.
The ship's ferric nickel, worth $30 million, was purchased by Yancheng Haixing Group and will be shipped to Jiangsu Delong Nickel Industry Co., Ltd.
Li Wenzhao, head of Delong Nickel's import and export department, says the company has a high demand for ferro-nickel, with 1m tonnes currently needed as a raw material for steelmaking.
It is understood that "facing the sea, developing towards the sea, enabling the future, and building a large steel base in Yancheng" is the coastal development goal of Jiangsu Yancheng during the 14th Five-Year Plan period.
As the raw materials for steelmaking nickel and iron are directly exported to the coastal port area, the construction of the coastal steel base will be accelerated.
The relevant person in charge of port of yancheng coastal port area, said the smooth operation of the first foreign trade cargo ship berthing operation opens the binhai port after officially opened a new chapter of foreign trade, as the radiating and driving ability of growing coastal port, will attract more foreign ships in and out of the coastal port area, to further improve the level of yancheng port overall opening to the outside world and expand the yancheng total import and export of foreign trade, development of export-oriented economy, growing coastal economic corridor is of great significance.
