PT Bukaka Teknik Utama Tbk (BUKK) in Jakarta, controlled by the Kalla family, which is increasingly developing investments in the renewable energy sector and downstream mining.

BUKK plans to build the second phase of its nickel smelter in Palopo, South Sulawesi, through PT Bukaka Mandiri Sejahtera (BMS) subsidiary.
The second phase of construction involves four nickel sulphate plants with an annual capacity of 31,400 tonnes, using either HPAL or hydrometallurgy.
BMS is currently building two plants in Phase I, a 43,000 mt/yr nickel ferro smelter using rotary furnace (RKEF) technology or fire metallurgy, and a 31,400 mt/yr nickel sulfate smelter using HPAL technology.
The ferric nickel smelter is expected to start production in mid-2023, while the nickel sulfate smelter is expected to start production in 2024.
