Chinese Copper Companies Have Pushed For More Exploration And Production To Secure Supplies Of The Metal

China's major copper producers are pushing for more exploration and production at home and abroad amid growing concerns about global supply disruptions, local industry media reported.

At a meeting on Tuesday, Jiangxi Copper, Zijin Mining, Tongling Nonferrous and other companies urged authorities to launch a new round of ore exploration as soon as possible and open up new mining areas for development, the China Nonferrous Metals News reported.


With the global green transition, copper consumption in the renewable energy and electric vehicle industries continues to grow, while the potential for supply growth in major copper-producing countries is limited, exacerbating the tight global copper supply.


In Peru, the Las Bambas copper mine owned by Minmetals Resources said it had begun reducing operations due to a recent blockade by indigenous communities.
