Jhonlin Group plans to build a nickel smelter at Tanah Bumbu in South Kalimantan, a development target to be achieved by 2022.
PT Jhonlin Agro Raya (JAR) owns a 2,000-hectare site in Simpang Empat district, Tanah Bumbu, on which its biodiesel plant is currently being built, which was recently commissioned by Indonesian President H Joko Widodo Ir H. Unveiled, other types of factories will follow.
"In the future, we will build smelters or nickel smelters," PT Jhonlin Group owner H Andi Syamsudin Arsyad said on December 17, 2021.
Entrepreneur H Isam explained that the presence of the SPECIAL Economic Zone in Tanah Bumbu is expected to absorb over 10,000 local workers and boost the economic development of Tanah Bumbu and South Kalimantan. The nickel smelter is scheduled to begin construction in April 2022, with four production lines expected to be built. Jhonlin Group will invest at least about $440 million. The nickel smelter will be the first and only Tanah Bumbu Regency in Mandan, South California.
The results of the Batulicin smelter will be shipped abroad as semi-finished products in the form of battery materials as finished products. The smelter's products are then used for domestic demand, as well as other potential markets in other countries around the world.
