Eurobattery Minerals AB has announced the commencement of a 1,000m drilling campaign at the Corcel project in the Castriz prospect, with the objective of defining resource estimates using the JORC code, which is expected to be completed in December.
The Corcel project is located in northwestern Spain, about 50 km from the city of Deportivo La Coruna.
"We will be able to prepare an open pit mine for battery minerals mined in Europe, which is our goal at Corcel," CEO Roberto Garcia Martinez said.
Mineral testing results from drilling in 2019 conducted by SGS Lakefield, Canada, and ALS Global, Perth, Australia, confirmed the economical grade nickel sulphide found at the Corcel project.
75-85% of the nickel in samples submitted by ALS Global (ME-ICP09) can be attributed to nickel from economic sulfides.
Mineral studies conducted by SGS Lakefield (QEMSCAN and EPMA) identified the major nickel sulfide minerals with very small amounts of nickerite and cordierite. Silicate minerals, iron oxides and chromite have relatively low nickel content.
Drilling work in 2021 will focus on the "Western Anomaly" near DDH COR003 (19DD0001), where the company's previous exploration activities have recorded soil anomalies up to 0.33% Ni and added underlying magnetically responsive rocks. DDH COR003 (19DD0001) confirmed the source of the anomaly in this area, with an average grade of 0.30% Ni, 0.038% Cu, 0.01% Co at 69 m and 0.345% Ni, 0.045% Cu, 0.011% Co at 21 m.
