Indonesian Minister Of Energy And Mineral Resources: Aoyama And Freeport Will Sign A Cooperation Agreement On The Copper Smelter Project At The End Of March

Indonesian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Arifin Tasrif told a member of parliament during the parliamentary session that Tsingshan and Freeport will sign a cooperation agreement on the copper smelter project at the end of March. The two sides are currently negotiating commercial terms. After reaching the agreement, Asingshan has committed to the copper smelter project being put into operation by 2023.


Indonesia's energy and mining minister said the two sides plan to build a copper smelter at the IWIP industrial park in Castle Peak, Indonesia, but the site is still being discussed, and the project may also be located in the city of Jipai in East Java.

Under Indonesian law, Freeport's copper smelter must be up and running by 2023 or its mining rights will be revoked.
