London, December 5th (Argus) - British mid-range producer Metalysis has begun commercial production of high-purity aluminum-scandium alloy powder.
The company has doubled the number of its operating second-generation production units to four, with each unit capable of producing up to 350 kilograms of aluminum-scandium annually. However, Metalysis CEO Nitesh Shah stated that in the coming months, the company will increase the output of the third-generation (units) to tonnage level.
The capacity of the aluminum-scandium market is estimated to be 3-4 tons per year.
After China implemented export controls, the company is increasing its production to address supply challenges from the upstream and midstream.
