Peru's Mining Output Fell For The Seventh Consecutive Month In September-PUDA Copper Packing Machine

According to data released by Peru's National Institute of Statistics, the output of Peru's mining and oil and gas industries in September 2020 fell 12.22% year-on-year, which was the seventh consecutive month of decline.

The institute said that the production of gold, copper, lead and silver has been most affected by the new crown epidemic. Gold production decreased by 32.9% year-on-year, copper production decreased by 16.1% year-on-year, lead production decreased by 14.8% year-on-year, and silver production decreased by 11.7% year-on-year.

Peru's metal mining output in September fell by 10.88% year-on-year.

Peru's crude oil production fell by 50.7% year-on-year in September, and natural gas production fell by 13.6% year-on-year.

In early October, Peru’s Minister of Energy and Mining, Miguel Inchaustegui, stated that the reduction in labor is affecting production. However, he is good to say that the still-operating mining company plans to be fully staffed by the end of the year. In addition, the construction of new mines is also plagued by a shortage of personnel, including Anglo American’s $5.3 billion Quellaveco project in the southern region of the country.

Peru is the second largest copper producer in the world.
