May 12, Japan's Sumitomo Metal Mining (Sumitomo Metal Mining) released the 2023 first quarter production report.
In the first quarter of 2023 in Japan, Sumitomo metal mines produced 38,100 tons of nickel, an increase of 9.80% quarter-on-quarter and 14.48% year-on-year. This included 15,400 tonnes of refined nickel, 20,400 tonnes of nickel sulphate metal and 2,300 tonnes of nickel ferric (water quenched nickel) metal.
Sumitomo Metal Mines sold 15,700 tons of refined nickel from Japan in the first quarter of 2023, 19,600 tons of nickel sulfate and 2,000 tons of nickel iron.
Sumitomo Metal Mine is expected to produce 149400 metal tons of nickel in fiscal year 2023 (April 23 - March 24).
Sumitomo Metal Mines' intermediate products project in the Philippines produced 10,900 tons of nickel and cobalt sulfide metal in the first quarter, mainly to provide raw materials for domestic nickel smelting.
CBNC MS produced 4,800 tons of nickel and sold 5,600 tons of nickel, while THPAL MS produced 6,100 tons of nickel and sold 8,400 tons of nickel.
