Tanzanian Mining Company Debates OnExemption From Export Of Copper Concentrate

Africa Mining Circle, September 20: According to the Daily News, the construction of the gold refinery in Geita, Tanzania has entered the late stage of completion. The project covers an area of 3,500 square meters and can purify precious metals to about 99.9%. It was built by Geita Gold Refinery Co., Ltd. in Maggo, a suburb of Geita.

Apolinary Modest, executive director of the Geita Regional Council, said that due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, imports have been delayed, but the installation of equipment has been advancing.

Modest said: “We expect these equipment to arrive at any time next month. This is a strategic investment that helps gold purification. Technically speaking, the purity of gold refined by small-scale miners is between 70% and 90%. In time, private investment will help the region improve its ability to refine this metal, which is also related to other minerals."

Modest said that this unpurified mineral is exported together with metals such as zinc, aluminum and copper, which will also help create jobs and taxes, which will also help the government determine the output of other minerals besides gold.

The Geita region is in a leading position in Tanzania's gold production, with at least 34 gold processing plants, but the Geita gold refinery is considered to be a more strategic supplement to the government to promote the development of its industrial economy.

Last year, investors from Geita Gold Refinery revealed that the facility will store a comprehensive gold bar storage vault with a UL-certified 50-ton level 3 vault, which is the highest rating in the industry.

According to the "Daily News" report, the Tanzanian Ministry of Mines has so far issued a gold refining license to the company, which enables it to now produce internationally recognized and marketable gold bars, such as 1,000-ounce gold bars and 400-ounce gold bars.
