HOUSTON, September 22 (Argus) - Canadian specialty materials producer 5N Plus announced today that it plans to expand the manufacturing capacity of its factory in St. George, Utah by approximately 50%.

5N Plus plans to commence construction in the near future and is expected to complete the project by the second half of next year.
The factory uses various compounds such as cadmium telluride, gallium arsenide (GaAs), and germanium to produce semiconductor materials, wafers, and substrates for defense, solar energy, medical, and other industries.
Before this expansion, the factory has received multiple contracts from the US Department of Defense this year, including a $18.1 million contract in January for expanding the gallium refining capacity, and a $7.3 million contract earlier this month for producing gallium arsenide components required for US defense applications.
