The British Geological Survey Publishes Online Mineral Exploration Reports Covering 267 Mineral Exploration Projects

The British Geological Survey's (BGS) Critical Mineral Intelligence Centre (CMIC) has completed a scan of the subset of Mineral Exploration and Survey Appropriations Act (MEIGA) reports held by BGS. The reports, which contain records from 267 mineral exploration projects conducted in the UK between 1971 and 1984, will help assess the UK's key mineral prospects. At the same time, it supports the UK Government's key minerals strategy by providing accessible historical information to companies wishing to explore the UK's key minerals potential. The first batch of scanning reports is now publicly available online and can be viewed on the CMIC website. The MEIGA Report was funded by the former UK Department of Trade and Industry for mineral exploration of non-ferrous metals, fluorite, barium and potash. The programme has led to significant new discoveries and developments, including the Gaillock copper-zinc gold deposit, the Mount Paris copper-lead-zinc deposit and the Hemerton tungsten-tin deposit. The MEIGA report consists of five parts: geological mapping, soil and river sediment geochemical data, geophysical surveys, core logging, and laboratory data.
