As originally reported in Indonesia, work on a nickel smelter at Bahodopi, Morowali district, central Sulawesi, is continuing.
Recently, Vale Indonesia (Vale Indonesia) company manager Bernardos. Bernadus Irmando told reporters that all conditions were being met to proceed to the final investment decision (FID) stage.
"Everything is showing good progress and we are managing to complete the final investment decision by the first quarter of 2022 at the latest."
In June 2021, Vale Indonesia signed an engineering cooperation agreement with two partners for the Bahodopi nickel smelter. They are Taiyuan Iron & Steel Co and Shandong Xinhai Technology Co.,Ltd.
Pursuant to the agreement, the parties have entered into an agreement to form a partnership (JV Co) for the construction of nickel smelting facilities in Xinhai Industrial Park, Morowali, Central Sulawesi.
The partnership will be 49 per cent owned by Vale Indonesia, while the remaining 51 per cent will be owned by vale Indonesia partners.
In the future, the partnership will build eight rotary kiln-electric furnace facilities with a projected annual output of 73,000 tonnes of nickel and supporting equipment.
