London, August 3rd (Argus) - The net sales revenue of the leading cadmium telluride thin-film solar manufacturer in the United States, First Solar, decreased in the second quarter compared to the same period last year, but the sales volume increased slightly.
The net sales revenue of First Solar in the second quarter was 1.06 billion US dollars, a 4% decrease compared to the same period in 2025, but a slight increase compared to 1.04 billion US dollars in the first quarter of 2026.
This decline was mainly due to the reduction in income from contract terminations, although the increase in the number of modules sold to third parties partially offset this decline.
The total sales volume in the second quarter was 3.7 GW, including 3.4 GW in the United States and 0.3 GW in India. The sales volume was in line with the previous expectation of 3.4-4 GW for this quarter, higher than the 3.6 GW in the same period last year.
In the second quarter, the adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization increased to 644 million US dollars, a 15% increase year-on-year and a 24% increase month-on-month.
As of June 30th, the company's backlog of contracts decreased from 47.9 GW at the end of March to 45.1 GW. The current backlog value is approximately 13.6 billion US dollars and is planned to be delivered until 2030.
Chief Executive Officer Mark Widmar said that among the 45.1 GW backlog, approximately 41 GW has certain forms of requirements attached.
The company's US factory is operating at a high utilization rate to meet the demand for domestic products. The new factory in South Carolina is expected to complete the first phase and start production in the second half of this year.
First Solar has maintained its guidance for this year, targeting sales of 17-18.2 GW and net sales of 4.9-5.2 billion US dollars.
