The Second Phase Of Zijin Mining's Kakula Copper Mine Will Start Commissioning With Materials in April 2022

The Concentrator of the Kamoa-Kakura Copper Mine

1

The Kamoa-Kakula copper mine in DRC is a key project for Zijin Mining to realize leap-forward growth. The construction of the second phase of the project's processing plant of 3.8 million tons of ore is advancing rapidly. It is expected to complete about 93% of the project by the end of January, and enter the trial run stage with materials in April this year. The overall progress is significantly ahead of the original second quarter. Based on 100% interest, the 2022 production target of The Camoa-Kakula mine is 290-340,000 tons of copper metal.

Cumulative copper output from May to December 2021

The phase I 3.8 million ton concentrator of The Kamoa-Kakula copper Mine officially produced the first batch of copper concentrate in May 2021, and quickly reached the designed capacity in September of that year, setting a new "purple gold speed". The actual capacity of the first-phase concentrator has exceeded the designed capacity by more than 15%, and the copper recovery rate continues to rise, exceeding 86% of the overall design recovery rate. In 2021, a total of 105,900 tons of copper-bearing metal concentrate will be produced at Kamoa-Kakula Copper mine, far exceeding the target of 92,500 to 100,000 tons planned for that year.

Project Construction Scenario

Relying on the effective cooperation between Zijin Mining and Ivanhoe Mining, abundant construction and development experience has been accumulated during the phase I construction of Kamoa-Kakula Copper Mine, laying a solid foundation for the feeding rate debugging and time-out sequence of the phase II concentration-belt test to achieve capacity climbing. The site of the project has introduced the high level professional technical team, is advanced planning phase I and phase ii choose factory joint design capacity climbing, strive for the two phase capacity by 7.6 million tons/year up to 9 million tons/year, realized expected to choose two factory are stable and card moire - Mr Khoja concentrate copper content in copper production will reach 450000 tons per year.

The construction of phase III concentrator of Camoa-Kakula Copper Mine has also been "parallel". The wellhead construction of the new ramp is progressing rapidly and is expected to be put into production in the fourth quarter of 2024. The phase iii expansion will also cover the construction of a 500,000 tpa crude copper smelter, which will be the largest copper smelter in Africa and will cover most of the copper concentrate at The Phase I, II and III of Kamoa-Kakula. The overall pre-feasibility study of the project will be updated in the third quarter of this year, which will cover the phase iii expansion plan.

Cultivator of Mumba Farm in the mining community

Kamoa-kakura is expected to be the highest grade major copper mine in the world, with an initial annual ore processing capacity of 3.8 million tons and an average selected copper grade of more than 6.0% in the first five years of production. The first phase is expected to produce about 200,000 tons of copper per year, and the second phase is expected to produce 400,000 tons of copper per year, making Kamoa one of the world's top 10 copper mines.

Once the project is expanded to handle 19 million tonnes of ore per year, it will become the second largest copper mine in the world, with a maximum annual output of more than 800,000 tonnes, according to independent research rankings. The project will also have one of the lowest greenhouse gas emissions per unit of copper in the world, according to an independent audit by Hatch Canada.
