In August, the operation of the national economy continued to recover steadily. According to data recently released by the National Bureau of Statistics, in August, the value added of the industrial enterprises above designated size nationwide increased by 5.6% year-on-year, and the growth rate was 0.8 percentage points higher than that in July; the month-on-month increase was 1.02%. From January to August, the national industrial added value above designated size increased by 0.4% year-on-year, and the growth rate turned from negative to positive. It is worth noting that the value added of the mining industry turned from a decline to an increase year-on-year in a single month, and the cumulative value added of the mining industry and the decline in fixed asset investment in the mining industry have both narrowed.

Data show that in August, the value added of the mining industry (above designated size, the same below) increased by 1.6% year-on-year, from a decline to an increase (a year-on-year decrease of 2.6% in July). From January to August, the value added of the mining industry fell by 1% year-on-year, and the rate of decline narrowed by 0.3 percentage points. From January to August, investment in the mining industry fell by 9.5% year-on-year, and the rate of decline narrowed by 2.4 percentage points.
In August, the overall added value of the downstream mining industry and related industries continued to grow, with some industries experiencing substantial growth. Data show that in August, the value-added of the non-metallic mineral products industry increased by 5% year-on-year, and from January to August fell by 0.4% year-on-year. In August, the added value of the ferrous metal smelting and rolling processing industry increased by 9.2% year-on-year, and from January to August it increased by 4.8% year-on-year. In August, the value added of the non-ferrous metal smelting and rolling processing industry increased by 4.8% year-on-year, and from January to August it increased by 1.7% year-on-year. In August, the added value of the metal products industry increased by 9.9% year-on-year, and from January to August fell by 0.2% year-on-year. In August, the added value of the power and heat production and supply industries increased by 5.9% year-on-year, and from January to August it increased by 0.5% year-on-year.
From the perspective of the output of major mineral products, the steady growth was basically maintained, and the growth rate of natural gas output slowed slightly. Ten types of non-ferrous metals: August output was 5.29 million tons, an increase of 6.9% year-on-year; January-August output was 39.89 million tons, an increase of 3.3% year-on-year; raw coal: August output was 328.81 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 0.1%, January-August output 2,450.42 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 0.1%; coke: August production was 41.28 million tons, an increase of 2.9% year-on-year; January-August production was 310.3 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 1.4%; crude oil: August output was 16.65 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 2.3% , The output from January to August was 130.15 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 1.5%; natural gas: the output in August was 14.2 billion cubic meters, a year-on-year increase of 3.7%, and the output from January to August was 122.5 billion cubic meters, a year-on-year increase of 8.8%. In addition, in August, the output of excavating, shoveling and transporting machinery maintained a significant year-on-year increase, reaching 34.1%.
From the perspective of fixed asset investment, from January to August, investment in the downstream mining industry and related industries continued to show a trend of narrowing decline or increasing growth——
The investment in the non-ferrous metal smelting and rolling processing industry fell by 6.3% year-on-year, and the decline narrowed by 0.2 percentage point; the investment in the metal products industry fell by 15.4% year-on-year, and the decline narrowed by 0.1 percentage point.
Infrastructure investment fell by 0.3% year-on-year, and manufacturing investment fell by 8.1%, which was 0.7 and 2.1 percentage points lower than that in January-July; investment in real estate development increased by 4.6%, 1.2 percentage points faster than that in January-July.
The indicators reflecting the stamina of investment growth continued to show good results. From January to August, the planned total investment in newly-started projects increased by 12.1% year-on-year, and the funds in place increased by 3.7%.
