Vale confirmed with Tisco, Xinhai Indonesia joint venture smelter investment final decision is about to be completed
Vale Indonesia/INCO confirmed that the nickel smelters at Bahadopi and Pomala in Sulawesi are continuing.
A few days ago, Indonesia Vale company finance manager Benaduce. Bernardus Irmanto told reporters the company had set its final investment decision targets for the completion of the nickel smelter in Bahodopi between December 2021 and January 2022. "The Progress of the Bahodopi smelter works remains in line with the hopes of all stakeholders."
Previously, In June 2021, Vale Indonesia signed a cooperation framework agreement with two partners, Namely Taiyuan Iron&Steel Group (TISCO) and Shandong Xinhai Technology Co.,Ltd (Xinhai).
Under the agreement, the three parties agreed to form a partnership (JV Co) to build a nickel smelter at the Xinhai Industrial Park in Morowali, Central Sulawesi. The joint venture will be 49 percent owned by Vale Indonesia and 51 percent owned by INCO partners.
In the future, JV Co will construct 8 Feronikel Rotary kiln-electric furnaces, which is expected to produce 73,000 tons of nickel per year, as well as auxiliary facilities.
Mr Benaduce said Vale was currently handling technology, licences and financing for the Bahodopi nickel smelter project.
