Brazilian miner Vale said global nickel demand will rise 44 percent by 2030 from this year, driven by strong demand for batteries used in electric vehicles. "With the energy transition, nickel demand is expected to increase rapidly over the next decade," the company said in a statement. It added that the new demand estimate would be 6.2 million tonnes. The company also estimates its own nickel production will reach 230,000 to 245,000 tonnes a year in the medium term, while output is expected to reach 190,000 tonnes in 2022. Growth in nickel supply should be driven mainly by Indonesia and Canada, as well as Australia, it added.
