Sydney, September 11th (Argus) - Vulcan Energy, a lithium developer listed on the Australian Securities Exchange, has obtained the second production license for its lithium hydroxide project, Lionheart, located in the brine area of the Upper Rhine Valley in Germany. The project is planned to produce 24,000 tons of lithium hydroxide annually.

This six-year license covers the Landau geothermal production area. Vulcan Energy stated on September 11th that this area is currently producing geothermal energy. The company expects that over the 30-year project operation period, the Lionheart project will supply: 275 GWh of renewable electricity and 560 GWh of renewable heat energy annually.
In March this year, the first six-year production license for the Lionheart project in the Insheim geothermal production area was approved.
The company plans to integrate these two licenses into a 30-year unified production license before the expiration of the 2032 license.
Vulcan Energy stated that the Lionheart project is still progressing as planned and is expected to come into operation in 2028.
Apart from Lionheart, Vulcan Energy is also developing the independent Project Ludwig project in the Ludwigshafen area of Germany, with the goal of producing 21,100 tons of battery-grade lithium carbonate annually. However, the company stated that no final investment decision will be made for Project Ludwig until the Lionheart project is operational.
