In September, the control of the new crown epidemic in the Congo (DRC) was partially lifted. The staff of the Kamoa-Kakura copper mine under Zijin Mining was further enriched. The development of the Kakura underground mine was advanced rapidly. A total of 22.6 kilometers of underground development projects have been completed.
A number of underground tunnels in the Kakula Mine have been dug into high-grade mining areas, and the copper ore grade is about 5%-8%. The project’s surface ore piles have stored 803,000 tons of ore, including 540,000 tons of Kakura North mixed ore pile, copper grade about 3.73% (including 125,000 tons of high-grade copper ore, copper grade 6%), and Kakura South Slope Road ore pile 168,000 Tons, 2.73% copper grade and 95,000 tons of ore and 2.34% copper grade in the Kasoko ramp.
Kakula Mine is speeding up the connection of the north-south transportation channel, which is expected to be completed in November. After the connection, the mining efficiency of high-grade mine sections will be significantly improved. Kakura Mine will also implement high-grade layered filling mining in the center of the deposit to further increase the extraction of high-grade ore, and strive to realize the direct transportation of high-grade ore from underground to the concentrator. At present, the construction of the Kakura Concentrator is progressing smoothly, the civil engineering is nearly completed, and the construction and installation of mechanical equipment is proceeding in an orderly manner.
Kamoa-Kakura is discussing in detail the sales and smelting plan of copper concentrate with many parties. Kakura will produce extremely high-grade clean copper concentrate, becoming a high-quality product that copper smelters around the world focus on. Current metallurgical test results show that according to global standards, the arsenic content of Kakura concentrate is extremely low, about 0.01%.
The Kakura Concentrator plans to produce the first batch of copper concentrates in the third quarter of 2021. It is expected to become the world's highest grade large-scale copper mine. The initial annual processing capacity is 3.8 million tons. The average copper grade for the first 5 years after commissioning is about 6 %the above. Kakura is the first mine among the planned high-grade mines within the 400 square kilometers mining license of the Kamoa-Kakura project. The Kakura Mine will use clean, renewable hydropower in an all-round way, striving to become one of the mines with the lowest greenhouse gas emissions per unit of copper in the world.
