The Lihir gold mine is located in an extinct volcano in Papua New Guinea. The mine was put into operation in 1997, and the current total output exceeds 10 million ounces. It is estimated that during the production period of Lihir Gold Mine, gold production will reach 64.1 million ounces. The Lihir gold mine is currently owned by Australia's Newcrest Mining Company (Newcrest Mining), which acquired the mine in 2010 for US$8.8 billion. Lihir Gold Mine’s 2019 gold production is approximately 932,784 ounces, and the mine is expected to produce 775,978 ounces of gold in 2020.
