Four Chinese-owned Mining Companies Have Been Robbed In The Central African Republic

According to the Chinese Embassy in Central Africa on December 23, private Chinese mining enterprises in Yaloke were robbed during armed exchanges in some parts of central Africa, reminding Chinese institutions and citizens in central Africa to strengthen security precautions.

On 3 December 2020, the Constitutional Court of the Central African Republic ruled to disqualify former President Bozize as a presidential candidate.

Mr Boyne is unhappy about this and has courted some armed groups to fight the government.

Chinese citizens have been evacuated from Yaloke since December 15, when four private Chinese mining companies were robbed of eight cars and other property in a chaotic confrontation between Armed groups and government forces in the area.

On December 16, after receiving a report from a Chinese citizen, the Chinese Embassy immediately made representations with the military police chiefs of China and Africa, asking them to conduct an immediate investigation to protect the safety of Chinese citizens in the area and on the way out.

On December 17th, as tensions grew, most of the 250 or so Chinese citizens in the area withdrew to safety on their own.

The Embassy then contacted individual Chinese citizens stranded in the local area to evacuate as soon as possible, and contacted relevant protection forces for their evacuation.

In the early hours of December 18, armed groups exchanged fire with the CENTRAL African Defence Force, and the evacuation of the stranded people was blocked.

The Chinese Embassy made urgent representations with the Ministry of National Defense, The Ministry of the Interior, the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Central Africa and other relevant parties, asking them to take immediate action to properly settle the stranded Chinese citizens, send forces to protect them and assist them to evacuate from the area.

The fighting subsided that day as UN peacekeepers intervened.

There were still sporadic exchanges of fire between the two sides on 19 December, but the situation was under control.

The stranded people have been evacuated safely.

Africa

China and Africa are rich in mineral resources. Ten of the 16 provinces in The country have gold mines and nine have diamond mines. Small-scale artisan mining is rife and many Chinese mining companies have entered the country to varying degrees.

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) released a report last year called Artisanal Mines in the West of the Central African Republic, which looked at this, highlighting the involvement of Chinese miners.

Yaloke

Yaloke, the site of the accident, is a resource-rich, gold-rich area that is one of the centres of civilian mining, with an estimated 23,000 artisanal miners.

Some small Chinese companies have inevitably run into conflicts of interest with local artisanal miners, including a Chinese company based in Gaga village that owns several mines in Zoue and Dambourou.
