Vale informed Samarco about the resumption of operations
On Dec. 23, Vale announced that Samarco Mineracao S.A. will gradually resume operations from today, as well as the Germano complex in Mariana, Minas Gerais state, and the Ubu complex in Anseta, Espirito Santo State.
When it returns, Samako will use one of the three ore concentrators at the Germano complex and one of the four pelleting plants at the Ubu complex to make pellets, with annual capacity of 7m to 8m tonnes, or 26 per cent of The company's total output.

Credit Suisse said in a report Wednesday that it expects copper prices to take a breather near $8,000 a metric ton, but that the long-term outlook remains positive.
The agency said it would take some retracement before the market would point to $8,346 and $8,895 a tonne before a clear break above $8,000 a tonne was reached.
Peru hopes to expand investment in mineral exploration
According to GMS, the Institute of Mining Engineers recently held a webinar in which local experts said Peru had the potential to attract 7-8% of global investment in mineral exploration.

China's aluminium imports hit a record high
China's aluminium imports hit a record high in the first 11 months of this year, surpassing the previous record set in 2009, largely driven by cross-market arbitrage imports, according to statistics released by the General Administration of Customs on Wednesday.
In the january-November period, China imported 2.44 million tons, four times more than in the same period last year and more than 2.32 million tons for all of 2009.
Imports in 2009 were also the highest ever.

Gazprom's supply of natural gas to China via "Power of Siberia" will double by 2021
The supply of natural gas from Gazprom to China via the Trans-Siberian Power pipeline will double by 2021, the vice president of the Russian gas company said, Sputnik News Agency reported Tuesday.
Gazprom plans to deliver 5 billion cubic meters of natural gas to China in 2020, 10 billion cubic meters in 2021 and 15 billion cubic meters in 2022 through the "Power of Siberia" pipeline.

Polar Gold will spend $600 million to advance the project
Polar Gold (Polyus) said it would spend $600m on a new gold processing plant and push ahead with the expansion of its second largest mine in Siberia, Blagodatnoye.
After the gold processing plant is completed, Polar Gold will go all out to develop the Sukhoi Log giant mine.
Chief Financial Officer Mikhail Stiskin told Reuters that while the company currently has a large portfolio of gold resources, it was looking to buy more gold exploration licenses in the long run.
