Nyrstar, the metals company owned by commodities group Trafigura, said on Thursday it had restarted its lead smelter in Stolberg, Germany.
Previously owned by Ecobat, Stolberg closed in 2021 after massive flooding in the west and south of the country and remained closed during the sale to Trafigura.

"Following the successful completion of the acquisition of the Stolberg plant by Trafigura on February 15, it can confirm that the Nyrstar Stolberg plant is now back online," Nyrstar said in a statement.
The Stolberg plant supplies lead mainly to battery makers in Europe.
It has the capacity to produce 155,000 tons of lead, more than 100 different specifications of lead alloys and 130,000 tons of sulfuric acid.
