Shanghai copper main contract breakthrough 70 thousand yuan/ton

Indonesia expects nickel sales to increase this year

Meidy Katrin Lengkey, secretary-general of the Association of Indonesian Nickel Miners (APNI), said recently that the resurgence of Covid-19 vaccine and vaccination will improve nickel production and sales performance this year.

APNI member companies have recorded sales of 40 million tonnes of nickel ore to smelters by 2020, accounting for about 40 per cent of last year's Total Work Programme and Budget (RKAB).

Meidy said nickel mining activity had begun to normalize, especially with the recent rise in nickel prices.





Zambia's copper production reaches record high in 2020

Zambia's mining minister, Richard Musukwa, said this week that the country's copper production in 2020 will reach an all-time high of 882,061 tonnes, up 10.8% from 776,430 tonnes in 2019.

Zambia is Africa's second largest copper producer.

Musukwa also said Zambia aims to produce more than 900,000 tonnes of copper by 2021, with a long-term goal of producing more than 1 million tonnes a year.

After investing $3.09 billion, Canada's Lundin Minerals plans to start operating its Argentinian silver, gold and copper project Josemaria in 2026, a company spokesman told Reuters on Wednesday.

Experts point out that Argentina is a country with large untapped mineral resources, mainly in the Andes Mountains region.

If the project is approved for environmental studies this year as planned, construction of the mine could begin in 2022.
