The Indonesian Association Of Nickel Mines Has Asked The Ministry Of Energy And Mines To Improve Trade In Nickel Ore In Indonesia

Meidy Katrin Lengkey, secretary-general of the Indonesian Nickel Mines Association, told parliament that the total number of nickel ore selling and supplying smelting plants in Indonesia by 2020 will be 40 million wet tons, 40 percent of the association's mining plan for that year.

The secretary general said that based on the February 2021 benchmark nickel ore price (HPM), the FOB price for nickel ore with a nickel grade of 1.8% and a moisture of 30% would be US $41.74 per wet ton, which would increase in line with global nickel price trends.

The secretary general said there were also smelters who did not follow trade norms and did not meet benchmarks in various ways, such as smelters demanding CIF prices for transactions and miners bearing freight charges and providing shipping subsidies.

The smelter company's fixed freight rate is $2 per wet ton, but the actual freight rate is $4 to $12 per wet ton.

The miners asked the Indonesian government to flat freight rates at $6 per wet ton.

Second, the smelting company fined the nickel ore less than 1.8%, so the discount payment was quite large. In addition, the smelting company only used two units, namely AW Company (Anindya Wiraputra) and Carsurin, for the raw ore inspection, but the inspection workload was too much, resulting in slow work efficiency and delayed payment.

The Secretary General asked the Ministry of Energy and Mines to intervene in the actual trade on the ground. With this improvement, Ms Meidi believes that mining enterprises can make the most contribution to the Indonesian nation.
