Singapore, February 2 (Argus) - Indonesia's state-controlled mining company Aneka Tambang (Antam) achieved its highest nickel ore production level in over a decade in 2025, mainly benefiting from the strong domestic demand in Indonesia.
According to its latest quarterly report, Antam produced 16.1 million wet tons of nickel ore in 2025, an increase of 62% compared to the previous year. During the same period, sales increased by 75% to 14.6 million wet tons.
The nickel ore produced by Antam is mainly supplied for the production of second-grade nickel in Indonesia and its own nickel iron smelter located in Kolaka.

However, the nickel iron production in 2025 decreased by 20% to 16,064 tons of nickel metal, and sales also nearly halved to 10,528 tons. The decline in production and sales was mainly due to changes in the minimum sales price rules. The company exports all of its nickel iron products, with major buyers including South Korea, India, and China.
The joint venture project of Antam's electric vehicle battery ecosystem with China's largest battery manufacturer CATL was started in the fourth quarter of 2025. This project is in line with Indonesia's strategic direction of promoting the development of the battery downstream industry chain.
