On April 21, the world's largest nickel and palladium producer, Russia's Norilsk Nickel Co., produced 46,667 tons of nickel in the first quarter of 2023, 9% less than the same period last year. The reduction in production was mainly due to short-term maintenance of the furnaces at the Nadezhda smelter and the Talnakh mill, which were carried out on a regular basis with the aim of maintaining uninterrupted operation of the main technical units.

Copper production in the first quarter of 2023 was 108,584 tons, an increase of 19% year-on-year. Full-year 2023 production is expected to range from 204-214,000 tonnes of nickel and 3533-373,000 tonnes of copper.
