Orion Minerals Has Confirmed The Feasibility Of An Open-pit Nickel Mine At Jacomynspan

ASX listed Orion Minerals announced that the shallow high-grade nickel, copper, cobalt, platinum group metal interceptor confirms the strong opencast potential of the Northern Cape Jacomynspan project in South Africa.

The company says the intersection starts just 85 meters below the surface, which provides an excellent opportunity for drilling in a shallow area that could extend up to 3 kilometers.

A special borehole from Jacomynspan found 31.5 m of ore at 100 m, containing 0.72% nickel, 0.34% copper, 0.05% cobalt and 0.45 g/t platinum and palladium.

7 meters of ore was found at 106 meters, containing 1.55% nickel, 0.345% copper, 0.1% cobalt and 0.43 g/t platinum and palladium.

Previous drilling has targeted the deeper portion of the deposit to assess underground mining potential, while the shallower portion of the structure has not actually been explored.

The objective of the company's plan is to conduct extensive resource drilling in the upper 200 m of the deposit to establish the mineral resources as a basis for economic research.

The work was carried out in parallel with the metallurgical tests.

Orion will acquire the remaining minority interest in the Jacomynspan project in 2020.

The project, located 65 km north of the company's flagship Prieska copper/zinc project, has mining and exploration rights in Namaqua and Disawell.
