Atlas Materials, which is focused on securing new energy nickel supplies for electric vehicle batteries in North America, has entered into a commercial agreement with Societe Miniere Georges Montagnat (SMGM) to supply nickel ore to Atlas's first commercial plant.
The Electra plant in North America will use Atlas's processing technology to produce nickel, magnesium hydroxide and auxiliary gelling materials for new energy by 2027. SMGM will supply up to 200,000 wet tonnes of ore per year under long-term contracts on market terms.
Headquartered in New Caledonia, SMGM is a well-known producer that meets European Union (EU) working and environmental standards. The ore provided will enable Atlas to produce new energy nickel for the North American electric vehicle battery industry.
When powered by renewable electricity, the Atlas process produces clean, battery-grade nickel with virtually zero carbon monoxide and no waste or other emissions, while increasing the amount of ore available for batteries by 50 percent.
"Securing a long-term supply of responsibly produced ore is an important milestone in Atlas' development and we look forward to building a strong partnership with SMGM." The demand for nickel in the electric vehicle industry is expected to exceed current capacity, and Atlas is committed to providing a safe source of clean nickel, diversifying the global supply chain and supporting the energy transition, commented Jere my Ley, co-founder and CEO of Atlas.
"SMGM is pleased to partner with Atlas to provide a long-term supply of sapropelic ore for its environmentally sustainable, energy efficient, zero waste and cost-effective technology. We expect that this productive women's volleyball team will benefit both parties while expanding the supply of sapropelic ore. SMGM Managing Director Thomas Sevetr e added: "Nickel ore to meet changing demand. This is in line with our vision to develop a truly sustainable nickel industry.
