Jokowi: Indonesia's Economic Progress Lies in The Development Of Downstream Industries in Raw Materials Such As Nickel Ore

Indonesian President Jokowi stressed that whether the Indonesian nation and economy can progress, the key lies in the downstream. With the successful implementation of the ban on nickel ore exports and the downstream of the nickel industry, Indonesia has managed to increase national revenues by 360 trillion rupiah.

Developing downstream of the industrial chain is key to Indonesia's economic progress, President Jokowi Jokowi said at the opening ceremony of the 2022 Investor Daily Summit at the Jakarta Convention Center on Oct 11, 2022. Downstream production is a strategy to increase the added value of the goods owned. With downstream, future exports will no longer be in the form of raw materials, but in the form of semi-finished or finished goods.

President Jokowi said that due to the success of the nickel export ban and the focus on the nickel downstream industry, policies to ban other mineral mining materials will be introduced. So after nickel exports stop, in another two years, asphalt will stop, tin will stop, bauxite will stop, copper will stop.

President Jokowi explained that by banning the export of mining raw materials such as nickel or implementing a downstream mining policy, its derivative commodities will generate added value, so that the state and the country will enjoy very large income.

President Jokowi said Indonesia would survive the global economic turmoil and its economy would remain healthy if the Indonesian nation and nation could stay aligned and compact downstream from the mining industry. President Jokowi urged the country and the nation to remain optimistic, and must also be vigilant and cautious in responding and conducting operational cooperation.
