In 2020, the MOA joint venture will produce 31,506 tonnes of finished nickel (100%), down nearly 5% from the previous year, and 3,370 tonnes of finished cobalt (100%), which will be roughly flat from the previous year, according to Sherritt's 2020 production results and guidance for 2021.
In 2019, it produced 33,108 and 3,376 tonnes of nickel and cobalt, respectively.
Nickel and cobalt finished product production in the first quarter of 2020 was affected by rail service disruptions in the first quarter, extended plant shutdowns in the third quarter, increased scope of work discovered and reduced contractor availability due to Covid-19 and adverse effects in the fourth quarter on unplanned maintenance of autoclave.
The total production realized by the MOA joint venture in 2020 benefited from additional health and safety measures implemented in the first quarter to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
By 2021, the MOA joint venture's nickel and cobalt production is expected to be between 32,000 and 34,000 tonnes and between 3,300 and 3,600 tonnes, respectively.
Production in 2021 is expected to be in line with the initial guidance in 2020 and the recent performance of the MOA joint venture, and reflects an ongoing commitment to operational excellence and employee health and safety.
